RGS glider

Postby stevebond » Mon Aug 10, 2009 8:27 am

Does anyone have any photos of the school's Grasshopper glider, preferably being bungee-launched in the playing fields, but any will do?

Thanks and regards

Welcome to the Forum Steve,
I remember the glider well myself, though my only contribution was helping to stretch the rubber launching cord on its very first flight at RGS.

Here's a photo of the Eton glider

You can read something about its manufacture here http://www.answers.com/topic/elliotts-primary-eon

I would love to have a photo of it being launched at RGS on my website.

Thanks Tony. Some lovely shots there by the way - I'm an avid aircraft photographer too.

Derek Jones owns a glider which we believe is the same as the one used by the school. You can see photos of Derek and his glider on http://www.rgs.tonyhare.co.uk/boys_pages/jones/jones.htm

I think the glider must have been delivered to the school in 1953. Can anyone confirm this date? And when did the glider last fly?

I remember flying the glider in 1960!
